Platypus Bay, off the coast of Fraser Island is one of the best places in the Southern Hemisphere to see Humpbacks. They stop off in this protected stretch of water on their return migration to Antarctica. Mothers with new born calves are a common sight. Sometimes mums can be seen giving their young a piggyback up to the surface. One theory is to help them get a breath if they a tired.
